Milford Therrell, Father of PERC, Passes

Propane industry legend, Milford Therrell, has passed away April 3 at the age of 76. After serving in the Navy, he joined Squibb-Taylor Inc. (Dallas) as a salesman based in Memphis, Tenn.

Cecil Squibb sold Mr. Therrell an interest in the company after his brother Cliff died. Working his way up, he eventually became president and general manager of the equipment distributor. During his time in the company, he supplied the vision and work ethic that resulted in a number of achievements for the industry, especially the establishment of the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), which he pushed hard to create in the 1990s.

Among the numerous industry leadership positions Mr. Therrell held were president of the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) and chairman of PERC. He was the recipient of several industry honors, including NPGA’s Distinguished Service Award and its Bill Hill Award. To honor Mr. Therrell for all of his hard work, PERC created a special award in his name that is given to state check off foundations or state associations that use PERC rebate monies that best exemplify the council’s goals.
